Alex’s Resource Page

Because our lives are more than our yoga or fitness routines, I wanted to create a space to share the tools I use and the resources that have been impactful for me. **FlowFit and I have not been sponsored or have any affiliation formally with these resources, I am just sharing my authentic love for them! You can find most of them on amazon but please contact me if you are having trouble finding anything.

Books and Reading/Listening Material

The Untethered Soul: A Journey Beyond Yourself

Written by Michael A. Singer. This book beautifully shines a light on the concepts we often use in meditation and yoga. It will take you deep and make you consider your actions in a profound way, all while being easily digestible and absolutely profound.

Yoga Anatomy

By Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews. A great book if you are looking for an even deeper explanation of breath and movement in the body without being overwhelmed by jargon. This is a great resource for yoga teachers and those curious about smart sequencing and the body’s musculature.

101 Asian Recipes to Cook Before You Die

Absolutely my favorite cookbook. An amazing way to learn to cook authentic asian food, inspire yourself and your family as well as find bright and healthy new dishes. This book absolutely helped me survive the pandemic!

Meditation Minis Podcast

By Chel Hamilton, this podcast is where I find a lot of the meditation techniques I like to use in class. She beautifully guides you through different styles of meditation and breathwork, and you do not need to be an avid yogi or meditation practitioner to enjoy. My favorite thing to do is put one of these on as I am getting ready to fall asleep. You can find this on the podcast app.

Daily Practices

These habits and routines have been simple to implement and profoundly impactful on my everyday life.

Morning Breathwork

I usually spend about 5-8 minutes at the start of my day with breathing exercises. This could be as simple as setting a timer and listening to my breath, drawing my attention back when my mind wanders. In general I will try a few different types of breath including circular and kapalbahti. Check out the meditation class about breath and nauli (30 minutes) to learn the specific techniques I use. I’ve uploaded it right here under the “Morning Nauli” section.

Morning Nauli

Nauli is a stomach vaccuum practice. As odd as it sounds (and feels sometimes!) there are many benefits of practicing Nauli. Some consider it a massage of the internal organs, I use it mostly to help enhance my ability to compress and to connect to my abdominal muscles. It is also a fantastic aide to digestion and always gets rid of any morning bloat I have! It is very important to try to practice Nauli with nothing in your stomach, hence why it is usually done first thing in the morning. It is hard enough to find the intrinsic control to practice Nauli, but trying to do so with a belly full of coffee or food makes it near impossible. Below is a video that walks you through my general routine!

Gratitude Journaling

Everyday, and possibly the most important part of my day, I practice gratitude. I personally write in a prompted gratitude journal, but you wouldn’t need anything special. Here are some prompts I use:

  • What are you grateful for today?

  • What are you thankful for in this moment?

  • What music did you enjoy hearing today?

  • What did you eat that you enjoyed?

  • What moments made you smile today?

  • Who did you enjoy seeing or talking to today?

  • What are you proud of about yourself today?

I look forward to adding more resources to this page, and continuing forward on this journey with you all!
